Business intelligence solutions for Orange County businesses come down to three things: a short list of measures everyone agrees on, a data model that calculates them the same way every time, and dashboards that show them before the meeting starts. Lightray Solutions builds all three in Power BI, and Edward Pinela, MBA, does the work himself.

Our business address is in Fullerton, so Orange County is home, but every engagement runs remotely: workshops by video with a shared screen, and the build inside your own Microsoft tenant. That keeps the price down and means you never wait for someone to drive over from Irvine to change a filter.

The first step is a free 30-minute strategy call. Request it with the form on this page or by phone; Edward replies within 4 business hours to set a time, and you receive a written, itemized quote afterwards.

“Amazing! Lightray Solutions built us a Power BI dashboard based on my busy restaurant’s quickbooks data that allows me to see my entire business on a daily basis which has been a game-changer! Excellent communication and service!”

— Quinn R., Google review

What do business intelligence solutions include?

A business intelligence solution is the whole path from your source systems to a decision, not just the dashboard at the end. For a typical Orange County company of 20 to 300 people, it includes four pieces, and each one is written down so you own it when the project ends:

  • A measures sheet. Every KPI (key performance indicator) with a plain-English definition, an owner and a target, agreed with the people who will be judged by it.
  • Connected data. QuickBooks, NetSuite or Dynamics for finance; HubSpot, Salesforce or Dynamics for sales; plus the Excel and SharePoint files that hold everything else, refreshed on a schedule.
  • One semantic model. The Power BI layer that stores relationships and calculations, so gross margin means the same thing on the sales page as it does on the finance page.
  • Dashboards people use. A summary page for leadership, working pages for each team, phone layouts and an emailed snapshot for anyone who will never open the app.

Which Orange County industries do we build BI for?

Orange County is not one economy. Data USA's 2024 figures put health care and social assistance (200,466 workers), manufacturing (188,463) and professional, scientific and technical services (167,434) at the top of the county's 1.6 million jobs, with hospitality around the Anaheim resort district and distribution near the freeways close behind. Each sector asks its data different questions, and the table below shows the ones we hear most.

SectorQuestions the dashboard answersUsual data sources

How does a business intelligence project run?

In four short stages, each approved before the next begins, so you never pay to build the wrong report. Most of the risk sits in the first two weeks, which is why agreeing definitions and reacting to a prototype come before any data work.

  • Discovery. After the strategy call, a review of your systems, current reports and the decisions they are meant to support. You get the scope, timeline and fixed quote in writing.
  • Measures and mock-up. One working session to settle the KPI definitions, then a page layout with sample figures for your team to mark up.
  • Build and reconcile. Sources connected, the model built in your tenant, and each headline figure checked against what your accountant or controller reports today.
  • Rollout. Access by role, a short walkthrough for each audience, and a round of changes once the dashboards have been through real meetings.

What does business intelligence cost for a small business?

A single-source dashboard on clean accounting data is a small, fixed-price project; joining CRM, accounting and operations systems with row-level security is a larger one. The written quote after discovery names the scope before you commit, and nothing is billed by surprise.

If you already have Power BI reports and need senior help to fix, extend or speed them up, Power BI Flex Support runs from $2,500 for 20 hours, prepaid at $100 to $125 an hour, and the hours never expire. Power BI work carries a guarantee: if you don't like working with us within the first 4 hours, you get your money back.

Why work with a senior consultant instead of a large firm?

Because the person who hears your problem on the first call is the person who writes the measures. Large firms sell with a partner and build with whoever is free; that handoff is where definitions drift and dashboards stop being trusted.

Edward brings 20+ years of business and data work and 200+ delivered projects, and Lightray holds a 4.9★ Google rating and a BBB A+ rating. If you need a team on your premises every day, or a platform other than Power BI and Microsoft Fabric, we will say so on the first call. Frequently asked questions

Do you meet in person in Orange County?

No. All work is remote: discovery and workshops run by video with a shared screen, and the build happens in your own Microsoft tenant. Our business address is in Fullerton, but it is not a meeting place. Clients from Irvine to Huntington Beach work with us the same way clients in other states do.

How long until we see a working dashboard?

On one or two clean sources, a few weeks from the measures session to rollout is typical. Projects that join several systems take longer. You see a mock-up with sample figures early on, and the written scope gives the timeline stage by stage before any work starts.

Our data lives in QuickBooks and spreadsheets. Is that enough?

Yes. That is the most common starting point we see. Power BI reads Excel and SharePoint directly, QuickBooks data comes in through a scheduled export or a connector service, and discovery shows which spreadsheet problems the model can absorb and which are worth fixing at the source.

Who owns the reports when the project ends?

You do. The model and reports are built in your Microsoft tenant, you buy any licenses directly from Microsoft, and the measures sheet documents every calculation. There is no hosting fee or license owed to Lightray, and no long-term contract.

What if we don't like working with you?

For Power BI work, if you don't like working with us within the first 4 hours, you get your money back. After that, each stage is approved before the next begins, so you can stop at any sign-off point.
