IT Consulting for Gilbert Businesses: Azure, Microsoft 365 and Security

A growing Gilbert practice or firm reaches a point where the person who set up email and the file server cannot also design security, plan a cloud move and control the bill. You do not necessarily need a bigger IT contract. You need a senior consultant to make those decisions properly once.

Our IT consulting in Gilbert, AZ covers the decisions a small or mid-sized business cannot afford to get wrong: whether and how to move to Azure, how to set up Microsoft 365 securely, who should have access to what, and why the cloud bill keeps growing. Edward Pinela, MBA, does that work himself, remotely, for Gilbert medical practices, professional firms, manufacturers and growing companies.

It starts with a free 30-minute strategy call. Consulting work is quoted after a short review as a written, itemized scope, so you approve a price before anything changes. Microsoft continues to bill your licenses and cloud usage directly.

“Great firm, they understood our company needs really quickly… their approach was very hands on…”

— Jean-Michel C., Google review

What IT consulting do Gilbert businesses actually need?

Gilbert is the largest incorporated town in the United States, and its economic development office organizes it around distinct employment corridors: science and technology firms in the northwest, a health-care corridor around the Banner campus, and aerospace and aviation businesses in the Gateway area near Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. Around them sit hundreds of practices, contractors and professional offices.

Their IT questions are similar regardless of industry, and they usually come down to the five shown in the table below: security that holds up, a server that needs replacing, Microsoft 365 that was never configured properly, a cloud bill nobody can explain, and data nobody can report on.

Is this IT outsourcing or IT consulting?

Consulting, and the difference matters when you compare quotes. IT outsourcing, often called managed services, is a monthly contract for someone to answer helpdesk calls, patch computers and watch systems. IT consulting is project work: a senior person designs the right setup, builds it, documents it and hands it over.

We do the second. Many Gilbert clients keep an outsourced provider for daily support and bring us in for the decisions that provider is not set up to make, such as an Azure migration, a security overhaul or a Microsoft 365 rebuild. If you have no provider at all, we will tell you whether you need one.

What does an IT consulting engagement include?

Most Gilbert engagements combine two or three of these, scoped after the first review:

  • IT and security review. Accounts, administrator rights, devices, backups, internet-facing systems and costs, written up as a prioritized list.
  • Microsoft 365 setup or clean-up. Multifactor sign-in, Conditional Access, SharePoint and Teams structure, and file permissions that match roles. See Microsoft 365 consulting.
  • Azure migration. An office server moved to Azure in tested waves, or retired in favour of SharePoint if that is simpler. See Azure consulting services.
  • Cloud cost review. Right-sizing, schedules, unused resources and license checks across Azure and Microsoft 365.
  • Handover. A runbook and diagrams your staff or IT provider can work from.

How much does IT consulting cost in Gilbert?

Each engagement is quoted per project after the free strategy call and a short review, as a written, itemized scope. What drives the price is how many people, systems and locations are involved, whether anything has to move, and how much security clean-up is needed. There is no monthly retainer.

Licenses and cloud usage stay on Microsoft's bill. A review often pays for part of itself: unused Microsoft 365 licenses, oversized Azure machines and duplicate subscriptions are common findings in businesses that grew quickly, and Gilbert has grown faster than most.

Frequently asked questions

Are you a local Gilbert IT company?

No. Lightray's business address is in Fullerton, California, and every engagement is delivered remotely, so there is no Gilbert office, staff or site visit. Arizona does not observe daylight saving time, so we schedule in your local hours year-round.

Do you offer IT outsourcing or helpdesk support?

No. We provide project-based IT consulting: reviews, migrations, Microsoft 365 and Azure setup, security and cost work. For daily helpdesk, device support and monitoring, keep or hire a managed service provider; we work alongside them and hand our work over to them.

We are a small office. Do we need Azure at all?

Often not. If your server mainly holds files and you already pay for Microsoft 365, SharePoint and OneDrive may replace it with no server to maintain. We recommend the simplest option that is secure, even when that means a smaller project.

Do you work with medical and dental practices?

Yes, and with the Banner-area health-care corridor nearby, many Gilbert enquiries come from practices. We configure Microsoft 365 and Azure so patient-related files are limited to the right roles, multifactor sign-in is enforced and access is logged. Judging your compliance obligations stays with you; we make the controls real and document them.

What do you need from us to start?

Three things: a temporary administrator login you control and can switch off, an hour with whoever set up your current systems, and one person who can approve changes. All work happens inside your own Microsoft environment.
