Microsoft Azure Consulting Services for Detroit and Michigan Manufacturers

A Tier 2 supplier in Michigan answers to customers who audit its cybersecurity, plants that cannot stop, and an ERP that has run on the same server for a decade. Moving any of that to Azure has to be planned around production, not around a consultant's calendar.

Our Microsoft Azure consulting services in Michigan are shaped around manufacturing: automotive suppliers, machine shops, plastics and metal-forming plants, and the distributors and engineering firms that serve them. Edward Pinela, MBA, reviews what runs today, designs a secure Azure foundation, plans migrations around production schedules and documents the result for your own team.

The work is remote and begins with a free 30-minute strategy call. There is no package price; after a short review you receive a written, itemized quote. Microsoft bills your Azure usage directly, separate from the consulting.

“Great firm, they understood our company needs really quickly… their approach was very hands on…”

— Jean-Michel C., Google review

Why do Michigan suppliers move workloads to Azure?

Because their customers and their hardware are both pushing. The Detroit Regional Chamber reports that 98 of the top 100 automotive suppliers to North America have a presence in Michigan and 65 are headquartered there, and those large suppliers pass security expectations down their own supply chains. Smaller suppliers increasingly receive cybersecurity questionnaires as part of quoting and onboarding.

At the same time, many plants still run their ERP, quality and file systems on servers in a back room. When that hardware ages out, the choice is another server or a properly secured cloud environment, and Azure fits shops that already use Windows Server, SQL Server and Microsoft 365.

What does an Azure project look like for a plant?

The order matters more in manufacturing than anywhere else, because the plant floor cannot wait for IT. We keep anything that controls machines on site, move the business systems around it, and schedule every cut-over for a planned shutdown or a weekend.

  • Review. Which systems the plant floor depends on, which are business systems, what the network between them looks like, and what each costs.
  • Foundation. Microsoft Entra ID with multifactor sign-in, role-based access, a site-to-site connection to each plant, Azure Policy and backup.
  • Business systems first. File shares, the ERP database, quality and document systems moved in tested waves, with a rollback path for each.
  • Plant-floor boundary. Machine controllers and line systems stay local; only the data the business needs crosses into Azure.
  • Handover. A runbook, network diagrams, a restore test and a walkthrough for your IT staff or provider.

How do we answer a customer's cybersecurity questionnaire?

With controls you can actually show. Questionnaires from larger automotive customers tend to ask the same core questions: is multifactor authentication enforced, who has administrator rights, are backups tested, is remote access secured, are systems patched and monitored. A well-built Azure environment gives evidence for each one.

We set those controls up, then help you describe them accurately. We will not tell you that you meet a named standard; that is for your customer or an assessor to judge. What you get is a clear, true account of what is in place, which is what the person reviewing your answers wants.

What do Azure consulting services cost in Michigan?

The consulting is quoted per project, as a written, itemized scope after the review. The biggest drivers are the number of plants and systems, how tightly the ERP is tied to plant equipment, and how much security work is needed. Azure usage is a separate monthly bill from Microsoft.

Manufacturers often own Windows Server and SQL Server licenses with Software Assurance. Microsoft's Azure Hybrid Benefit lets eligible licenses be applied in Azure, which can cut the running cost of a migrated ERP noticeably. We check eligibility during the review, before any sizing decision.

Why Michigan manufacturers work with Lightray on Azure

One senior consultant handles the engagement from review to handover. Behind the work are 20+ years of technology experience and 200+ delivered projects; Lightray holds a 4.9 Google rating and an A+ BBB rating. We do not resell Azure, so advice on what to run and what to switch off is independent.

Production data in Azure can feed Power BI for Detroit suppliers and shops. Nearby Azure pages cover Toledo and Cleveland; the full service is on Microsoft Azure consulting services, and migrations in detail on Azure cloud migration services.

Frequently asked questions

Do you visit plants in Michigan?

No. All work is remote, done over video and screen share inside your own Azure tenant during Eastern business hours. Lightray's business address is in Fullerton, California; there is no Detroit office or local team. Someone on site handles anything physical, such as network equipment, with us guiding on screen.

Will moving to Azure stop production?

It should not. Systems that control machines stay on site, and business-system cut-overs are scheduled for planned downtime or weekends, after a test migration. Every wave has a rollback path, so if something unexpected appears the plant goes back to the old system.

Can you make us compliant with our customer's requirements?

We can put strong, verifiable controls in place and help you describe them accurately. Whether you meet a particular customer's standard is for that customer or an assessor to decide, so we will never claim compliance on your behalf.

Can plant data still reach our reports after the move?

Yes, if it is planned for. Line and quality data usually stays on site and is copied on a schedule, over a secure connection, to a database in Azure that reporting tools can read. The plant keeps running if the internet drops, and managers still get current numbers in Power BI.

How long does an ERP migration take?

It depends on how the ERP connects to plant systems and other software. The review maps those connections and gives a realistic timeline before you commit. Most of the time goes into planning and a test migration; the cut-over itself is usually one planned window.
